Yesterday I ran the Clinton Township Country Run. There were 3 race distances: 15K, 5K, and 1-mile. I ran the 15K.

Official Stats
9.3 miles
1:09:08 minutes
7:25 pace
99/339 overall
16/144 females
5/15 age group

Garmin Stats
9.36 miles

Seriously, could the sky be any bluer?

Race Report

This was the earliest I have ever “raced” after a marathon (12 days)  and while that is probably enough time for many people to fully recover, I definitely wasn’t completely back to normal. I felt good, but not perfect. It was a beautiful day to race, however, and a beautiful course at that. I swear, this race gets beautiful weather every year. Set in the countryside of Clinton Township, we ran on packed down trails through farmland, over bridges of water and past quaint red farmhouses. This course was much easier than the hilly 15k I ran last month, but of course, I finished 3 minutes slower in this race because of Boston.

My goal for this race was to stay between a 7:15-7:30 pace. I started out fast (7:04) because the course begins downhill. I spent the next couple of miles making up for that. I am terrible ‘middle of the race’ racer, meaning I usually start strong (read: too fast) and finish strong. I always have a pretty good kick at the end, probably meaning I save a little during the race. It is something I am still playing with. Today (yesterday) was not the day to change mess with things though. It is just something I am trying to stay aware of.

The Traditional Picture:

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

WOW that’s AMAZING!! I can’t believe you ran that fast just 12 days after Boston!! Can I please have your speed?!?! And I’m a terrible middle-of-the-race racer too! I never know how fast to go because I don’t want to burn out at the end!!

CONGRATS again on your amazing race!! :D

Although I have no experience with how long it takes to recover after a marathon (I ended up injured during both of my attempts and was forced not to even attempt running for several weeks/months) I personally think that racing 12 days after a decent marathon is amazing! And 7:22 is fast 12 days after!

you have great speed! so impressive!

I am the same way when I race…tend to start out too fast…even out in the middle…but usually have energy left to pick it up at the end. I never know if that is good or bad but it has seemed to work okay so far.

Workout this weekend was cutting back a bit…have a big time at school coming up and have ran hard the past few weekends so just felt I needed a break :)

the sky looks incredible and whoa you’re speedy!!

This weekend I only got to run on Saturday. I ran a quick seven miles on the treadmill before heading to DC! Can’t wait for tomorrow’s run!

you are young, so you will recover faster than you think, and it was only a 15km race not another marathon…

Nice run, when is the next race that you race?
