Yasso 800s and Indian Trails

by blueeyedrunner on March 31, 2011

Stats
7.0 miles
51:16 minutes
7:19 pace

The Workout: 8 x 800s

Splits: 3:11, 3:02, 3:10, 3:05, 3:08, 3:01, 3:14, 3:01

I jogged a quarter mile after the first 2, then rested about 60-90 seconds after the rest.

Again, the splits are all over the place because I completed this workout on a road, not the track. Starting with the first split, I was running slightly uphill- which is why every other split is a bit slower. Then the alternate splits were slightly downhill, thus a few seconds faster. I needed more rest after the uphill splits than the downhill ones.

I felt great after this workout! Usually after 6- 800s I feel like I can’t run another step, but this time I paced myself.

I was really tired and sore last night but this morning I feel great! Should be ready for the 15k this weekend, but don’t expect me to come back with a good finish time…check out the course elevation:

Should be fun, right?

Sneaker Factory Spring Run Race Report: Volunteer Edition

by blueeyedrunner on March 29, 2011

image

On Sunday, my dad and I volunteered at the Sneaker Factory Spring Run (formerly the Millburn Spring Run). We were originally planning to run this race, but when our running club sent out an email requesting volunteers, we decided volunteering was a better way to support the team.

There were a total of 4 distances to choose from to race: 1/2 mile kids run, 1 mile kids run, a 2 miles and a 10k. This race was a part of the New Jersey Grand Prix Running series and worth  500 points. Strategically, this would have been a smart race to run because it was very small. The 10k only had 154 finishers (92 male, 62 female).

My dad and I were assigned to man the finish line as well as the water stop. There was one water stop that the runners passed by twice during the race. The course consisted of 2- 5k loops.

I know I have been doing a lot of complaining about the cold weather but it was seriously freezing today. High 20s with a wind chill when we got there, I think it was closer to 32 degrees by the time the 10k started at 11:30.

I really enjoyed volunteering for this race. I actually went prepared to run, just in case because I heard there were plenty of volunteers, but I’m glad I didn’t.

Pros:
*Small race size- good for points!
*Well-organized, low-key race.
*Different race distances to choose from.
*Quiet course- no cars

Cons:
*Not a lot of crowd support.
*There was snow on the ground and it was freezing.

Some pictures from the race:

This is called a “Spring Run” so why is there snow everywhere??

My dad took over 500 pictures from the day and we are working on getting them uploaded to a site for free download, so if you ran this race, chances are there are a few pics of you! Check back or email me for the link and I will send it to you.

And now,a Race Announcement: Forget everything I said about tune-up races. I signed up for this race next weekend. Don’t be mad.

Juice and Hot Sauce

by blueeyedrunner on March 28, 2011

Workout:
5 mile treadmill run
43 min
7.0 mph (8:34 pace)

*Rest and Water*

2 minute plyo lunge jumps
3 sets: 1 minute, 30 seconds, 30 seconds

It is amazing how 2 minutes of exercising can make you sore for 2 days…

After my workout I came home and used my new juicer.

Citrus Juice

Before…

Ingredients
1 large grapefruit
1 lime
1 small granny smith apple
3-4 celery stalks
handful of baby carrots (not pictured)

After…

It looks just like regular grapefruit juice, only way healthier!

A couple of weeks ago I signed Dan up for the hot sauce of the month club. A few days ago, his first shipment arrived. Naturally we revolved last night’s dinner around the arrival of the hot sauce.

It was delicious. I like the Spice O’ Life one better because it has a cruise ship on the front and that is how Dan and I met.

*Do you like hot sauce?
Love.

*Do you plyo? Any suggestions for other types of jumps?
I tend to repeat lunge and squat jumps. If I had a step I would use that but usually when I do plyo it is in my apartment’s gym and there are no steps.

*Back tomorrow with a “Volunteer Edition Race Report” and an announcement…
